Khuê Văn Các (Khuê Constellation Pavilion) was built in 1805 under the reign of King Gia Long, was in the center of the second courtyard of Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám.
This construction was built by Nguyễn Văn Thành - chief of the North part in an unique style: it is a wooden pavilion with double roofs of pipe-shape tiles, decorated in four corners with terra-cotta. Khuê Văn Các was built on four square brick pillars with no wall. The edges of the pavilion are wooden, well – carved decors, with well – engraved handrails and four circular windows attached with 16 spikes radiating outward, symbolizing the shining Khuê Constellation. On the pavilion hangs a red board with three golden characters: Khuê Văn Các.
On the sides of Khuê Văn Các are engraved couples of sentences praising the significance of literature:

Luxury pavilion stores treasure and success
2. As the Khuê constellation shines in the sky, humanity is known everywhere
The water of Bích river is full of spring scenery, the doctrine source is long
There are two small gates: Súc Văn (the magnificence and conciseness of the text) and Bí Văn (the beauty of the character).
Khuê Văn Các pavilion has been chosen as the symbol of Hanoi capital with a thousand years’s culture and the beauty of culture likened to the Khuê constellation.
