Above the shrine in the center of Bái Đường (House of Ceremony) is the horizontal board with 4 big Chinese characters: Vạn thế sư biểu (the everlasting exemplary educator), made in 1888. The characters were the copy of handwriting of Chinese King Kangzi honouring Confucius. He wrote these characters when he came to make offerings to Confucius in Confucius Temple in Kufu district of Shantung province (China).

The smaller characters on the other side show the erection time of the horizontal board.

“Vạn thế sư biểu” horizontal board in Bái Đường used to hold Confucius’s doctrines in high esteem who dedicateed in Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám.
